'TIS THE SEASON TO COOK (AND READ) TOGETHER

It’s that time of year again. Time for family, friends, good cheer and holiday cooking.

Hosting a big family dinner, baking cookies or just making snacks? Your child can be a great helper. And you can make sure they’re building reading skills.

  • Read the recipe together. What comes first, next and last?

  • Put your child in charge of writing the grocery list. Option: draw list items.

  • Count and measure everything together.

  • Bring the five senses to life. Talk about how things look, smell, feel and taste.

  • Write a family recipe book. Add photos and memories.

  • Spread the love. Make homemade holiday cards to share treats with family and friends.
