Lunch & Learn: Supporting Immigrant and Refugee Students

The Office of Family and Community Engagement is pleased to offer Lunch & Learns to all School District of Philadelphia employees on Supporting Immigrant and Refugee Students.

The national and local discourse about immigration raises many questions. What is my role as a District employee? How can I help students and families feel welcome at my school? Are there any resources that I can access to help my undocumented students pursue post-secondary education? How does immigration status affect cognition, behavioral health, and student achievement? How trauma-informed practices apply to the work with immigrant and refugee students?

These sessions will provide you with: an overview of the demographic landscape of the City of Philadelphia and the District; information about local organizations that can facilitate family workshops about the rights of immigrant students and families; and the opportunity to examine how your school culture and climate might serve as a deterrent for students and families to feel a sense of belonging at your school.

LUNCH & LEARN:

Session date & times: Thursday, May 25: 12:00 P.M. & 1:00 P.M.

Location: 440 North Broad Street, conference room 1069

Act 48 credits will be offered. All are encouraged to register now using PD Planner. For complete instructions on how to log into PD Planner, please go visit: http://www.philasd.org/offices/act48/pd_planner/
