A Letter from our Executive Director: Family Workshops are Coming Your Way!

Dear Families, Staff, Students, and Community Members:

Are you the parent/guardian or family member of a student? Do you wish to know more about the District? Would you like to increase your skills, gain knowledge, and receive resources to become a leader and advocate for your child’s learning? We want to keep you informed, connect you to services, and engage you in learning opportunities so you can better support your student!

The Office of Family and Community Engagement is excited to announce that the monthly district-wide Family Engagement Workshop Series is back! Research shows that when parents and families are involved in learning, they will have a more active role in the educational process. This heightened engagement in education positively impacts the academic and social success of children.

The intent of the Family Engagement Workshops is to provide families with the guidance they need to support their children in school, develop parent leadership capacity, and provide them a new outlook on education and the learning process that increases the likelihood of the academic and personal success of our students and their families.

Workshops will be offered in-person, online, and even over the phone to provide centralized access to free learning opportunities. Classes are provided in partnership with internal district departments, academic institutions, community organizations, national experts, and other agencies. Classes are FREE, childcare is provided, interpretation services are provided (with advanced registration), and a light meal will be served.

For more information or to find out how you can get involved in Family Engagement Workshops as a participant or a facilitator, contact the Office of Family and Community Engagement at face@philasd.org or (215) 400-4180.

I hope to see you at our next workshop. Strong Families = Successful Students! We together can make a difference.

Jenna Monley
